What’s Cosmetic Dentistry?

Posted .

General dentistry is about preventing oral health erosion, preserving robust teeth and caring for unhealthy teeth and gums, but there’s more to dentistry than just that. Of the many subfields of dentistry, cosmetic dentistry may be the most popular. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on enhancing the appearance of teeth and may also include some restorative procedures.

Cosmetic dentistry is increasing in popularity for a few reasons. Because of scientific advances such as laser dentistry, dentists can complete cosmetic dentistry procedures without referring patients out to see another practitioner. Advances in oral techniques and trainings are also making it more commonplace for dentists to practice cosmetic dentistry.

One of the most commonplace cosmetic dentistry procedures is dental fillings. When having a tooth filled in, you can choose for your doctor to fill it with porcelain or other materials that look close to the color of your teeth. Though this is common today, this procedure is new enough that many of our patients elect to have older filling removed and replaced with porcelain fillings to enhance the appearance of their teeth.

There are many additional cosmetic dentistry practices, and our staff at Dentist 4 Life - Mark DeVuyst DDS, PC in Clinton Township, Michigan, would love to tell you all about them! Give us a call at 586-416-1625 and we’ll set up an appointment with Dr. Mark DeVuyst for you. We’ll see you soon!
