Softball Behavior to Avoid

Posted .

If you’re a softball player, you’re likely excited for the new season that is just beginning. Our dentist wishes you luck! One thing he encourages you to do while you’re swinging the bat, catching the ball and doing other softball-related things is to care for your smile. This is important because there are habits and behaviors involved with the sport of softball that can harm your teeth and gums. For the healthiest smile possible, it’s best to avoid those things, which are:

-Drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks can affect the smile because they are loaded with sugar, and sugar promotes cavities. Instead of drinking sports drinks, drink water. Water is the best beverage for the teeth and gums.

-Using tobacco: Tobacco can destroy the smile, so it’s important to avoid smoking it, chewing it and using it altogether. If you need help doing so, our dental team might have some tips to share.

-Chewing tooth-harming products: Chewing sunflower seeds and sugary gum can promote dental issues. This is because cracking sunflower seeds can crack the tooth enamel and chewing sugary gum can cause cavities. So, it’s best to chew shell-less seeds and sugar-free gum.
