A Porcelain Crown Can Restore a Tooth

Posted .

Your smile’s appearance plays a significant role in your life. When one of your teeth suffers from a visual imperfection such as a mismatched dental filling, discolored tooth enamel, or a dental fracture, it can leave you feeling self-conscious.

To effectively treat a problem like this, Dr. Mark DeVuyst might recommend replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with a porcelain dental crown.

This process starts with Dr. DeVuyst removing the existing layer of tooth enamel to create an abutment from the healthy dentin layer within. This will eventually act as an anchor point for the crown.

Once this is done, the doctor will prepare an impression of the area. This will be sent to a professional dental lab where a replica of the original surface of the tooth will be created from a special porcelain material. Then a temporary crown is secured over the tooth to protect it.

The doctor will call you back in for a follow-up appointment when your porcelain dental crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and he will cement the dental onto the tooth with a strong dental adhesive.

If you live in the Clinton Township, Michigan area and you have an unappealing tooth in your smile, you should call 586-416-1625 to set up an appointment at Dentist 4 Life - Mark DeVuyst DDS, PC.
